2024 NBA All-Star Weekend Highlights
The NBA All-Star Weekend returns this year exciting fans worldwide!
Saturday, February 17th at 8:00 PM EST, kicks off with the Skills Challenge, Slam Dunk and 3-pointer contests, along with a special 3-pointer championship featuring Sabrina Ionescu vs Stephen Curry.
The main NBA All-Star Game will start on Sunday, February 18th at 8:00 PM EST.
Skills Challenge
Three teams will display their ability in the Skills Challenge: Team Pacers, Team Top Picks, and Team All-Star, setting the stage for the first activity, building anticipation for the weekend’s main events.
Slam Dunk Contest
The NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk contest has lost a bit of spotlight, as the 3-pointer contest gained traction among NBA fans.
Jaylen Brown headlines this year’s Slam Dunk Contest, joined by defending champion Mac McClung, who, by the way, has spectacular dunks, which is surprising considering his height for this contest.
3-Point Contest
This All-Star NBA Weekend 3-pointer contest features elite shooters, including Damian Lillard, Tyrese Haliburton, Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson, and Trae Young, all competing for the 3-pointer crown in a hotly contested competition.
Curry vs. Ionescu
This year, we have a special 3-pointer championship, with Curry – who is not a starter for the West in the All-Star game this year… but well, he is the BEST three-pointer in NBA history – against Sabrina, the current best three-pointer in the WNBA, for the first time in WNBA and NBA history!
They have very similar shooting percentages this year. Curry shoots 42% from downtown throughout his career and this season. Ionescu, with a four-year WNBA career, improved to 44% last season from her usual 37%.
NBA All-Star Game: Eastern Conference vs Western Conference
This year, the Eastern Conference vs. Western Conference format returns for the NBA All-Star Game.
Critics have heavily lambasted the NBA All-Star Game in recent years for its lack of competitiveness, often branding it as an exhibition match.
LeBron will play his 20th uninterrupted NBA All-Star Game this year, followed by Kareem with 19, and Kobe with 18.
Efforts to enhance the NBA All-Star Game’s competitiveness include implementing rule changes and dedicating each quarter to charity. The final quarter is played with a target score of 24 points in honor of Kobe Bryant.
This year, the game – along with the contests – takes place on a LED SCREEN court instead of traditional wood.
At BettDraft, we find ourselves extremely intrigued by the images, projections, and possibilities that this setup can create.
